I got better radio signal today. This is after positioning the radio by the short pole around 3 feet high. I was mistaking by the insulated wire though. I should've gotten a longer one. All the re-fixing with a pair of pliers made some light scratches on the handle. Ah well, it's bound ot happen. But the signal was good and I heard it clearly.
