Mommy's Birthday 2008

Since we didn't visit Pampanga during Holy Week, we went there today. I brought along the vcd I created out of the pics we took in Jakarta, Indonesia. And I was proud of my editing too!

Later in the day, we had cake and ice cream and some photo-ops. Renz was super excited singing and clapping Happy Birthday.

Back from Jakarta

DH and I just came from Jakarta yesterday and I conveniently forgot to update my blog due to all the work waiting for me. :) I have so many pics that have not been sorted but in the meantime, here are a few of what I have from the 5 days we were there:

This is the pool of the house where we stayed. I wanted to swim everyday, but fatigue allowed me to swim only twice. Here's the group that went there. That's me, DH, Recie, SMina, SBern and Pugs.

Happy Birthday at Le Garden Restaurant for DH

Today was DH's ??th birthday! Renz is in a zombie-like trance as he hands over his present.

By this time, Che and Karen were already worried that Renz was giving away one of their personal belongings as Renz was becoming notorious for giving somebody else's stuff. Here's Renz's gift. A couple of his marbles.

A New Stepper

I bought a Balance Stepper for family exercise this summer. This is the lateral balance stepper that's advertised by Tony Little as the "Rock and Roll" Stepper.

We tried the stepper at the JB Sports at the Alabang Town Center. I must admit it was hard for me to get used to the feeling of the sideways rocking motion. But this exercise equipment seems to give a good cardio workout.

Will the kids use it as a form of aerobic exercise? Well I hope so for its price of Php2385. DH is very good at using this.

Grip Exercise while Walking

Today, I saw my Chinese-style hand gripper/ massager. And I thought of using it on my way out of the house. Since I've been walking almost everyday to get from our house to our service bus, why not use it while walking. That way, I get another thing done.

Eating at the Pool

I briefly had my swim today after a long recuperation (and additional therapy). I didn't stay long though. I just sorta' "tested the waters" (pun not intended) after weeks of shoulder strengthening. So I did 3 laps of free, 2 laps of back, 3 laps of breast and 1 lap of fly. Yup, THAT short. And so far so good. The shoulder's holding up good. Let's see in the coming days.

Today, there were adult kids there and I don't think they were students. I don't know what it is with eating by pool near the pool gutters, but so many people think it's so cool. Worse, some would drink softdrinks IN the pool. Worst, some would drink AND eat IN the pool! What the heck is that? And soon I see these plastic wrappers of foodstuff floating in the water. Yuck.

Strengthen the Rotator Cuff Using Stretch Cords (Part 2)

This is another shoulder that my physical therapist recommended.

Reverse Torch Exercise

For the Reverse Torch exercise, anchor the end of the stretch cords at an overhead level.

Strengthening the Rotator Cuff using Stretch Cords (Part 1)

The second set of my current shoulder exercises uses stretch cords. Several months ago, I mentioned a couple of stretch cord exercises that I did in this entry.

For both of these, I perform 5 reps per arm with a 10-second pause at the movement's end position. These exercises are very well known for the Rotator Cuff and I'm still doing them.

The other stretch cord exercises that my Physical Therapist taught me are the Torch and the Reverse Torch exercises. The Torch exercise is called as such due to the "torch-raising" motion required to perform it.

Toastmasters Meeting - March 6, 2008

It was another fun-filled meeting at the Alabang Community Toastmasters Club. The theme for tonight's meeting was on "Excellence" and we had a short segment in Table Topics where each took a stab at defining the word.

Speakers in the meeting were Dr. Neil with his speech entitled "Yah, man" (Interpretive Reading #1) and club-hopping Duchess Cruz with her speech entitled "I Got Served!" (Your Body Speaks).

Dr. Neil evaluated Duchess while I evaluated Dr. Neil. Ma'm Lolet was Toastmaster of the Evening, Atty. Trisha de Guia was the ah counter and I was the General Evaluator.

Strengthening the Rotator Cuff using Light Dumbbells (Part 2)

Another dumbbell exercise I do that strengthens the Rotator cuff is the 45 Degree Raise. This weights exercise is more common than the first since I found it on the 'net. It is simple to do and effective for me.

45 Degree Raise

Strengthening the Rotator Cuff using Light Dumbbells (Part 1)

Maybe it's the La Nina phenomenon that's why it's so cold nowadays. I feel lazy to swim and so I just walk at the office and continue my shoulder strengthening and stretching at home.

So how's my shoulder routine like now? It's very much simplified, thank you. Well, upon waking up I have breakfast at around 6am.

I also prepare a "hot compress" with my trusty hot water bottle. I put in on my shoulder and move it around on the shoulder area as I have coffee.

Malling for Stuff

There was a mall-wide sale at Southmall so we went. I just got me 3 more pairs of pants. My old bag just didn't make it and ripped open last week and so I bought a Hawk bag as well. Will most likely use this for our forthcoming trip to Indonesia.

Finally, I got myself another cheap book. Yup, something's a-brewing and launching really soon!
